Calculator Recommendations

MthSc 101

The Department of Mathematical Sciences strongly recommends that each student in MthSc 101 have a TI-83+, TI-84, or TI-84+ calculator. Students will be at a possible disadvantage on some tests and quizzes without a calculator since use of laptop computers will not be permitted.

MthSc 102 and 207

The Department of Mathematical Sciences strongly recommends that each student in MthSc 102 and 207 have a TI-83+, TI-84, or TI-84+ calculator. It will be very difficult to complete tests or assignments without the use of such a calculator. Students in MthSc 102 and 207 will not be permitted to use a calculator which does symbolic mathematics, such as a TI-89 or TI-92, on tests or quizzes.

MthSc 104, 105, and 199

The Department of Mathematical Sciences strongly recommends that each student in MthSc 104, 105, and 199 have a scientific calculator (one including trig and log functions) such as a TI-30XII. This calculator will be used for class work and tests. Use of a graphing calculator, such as a TI-83+, TI-84, or TI-84+, or TI-89, will not be allowed for tests.

MthSc 103, 106, and 108

The Department of Mathematical Sciences strongly recommends that each student in MthSc 103, 106, and 108 have a graphing calculator, such as a TI-83+, TI-84, TI-84+, or TI-89. Students will be expected to use either laptop computers and the software bundled with the course text or a calculator for homework and classroom exercises. Students will not be permitted to use laptop computers or calculators on exams.

MthSc 203

The Department of Mathematical Sciences recommends that each student in MthSc 203 have a TI-83+, TI-84, or TI-84+ calculator. Students will be at a disadvantage on some tests and quizzes without a calculator since use of laptop computers will not be permitted.

Purchasing Calculators

The Clemson University Bookstore sells the recommended calculators. They are also available from many electronics stores, discount stores, and mail-order companies.
