Their job was to salvage the great number of boats and yachts that the Iraqi enemy had sunk in beaches and sea clubs in Kuwait. The team was given the name "KUWAIT DIVING TEAM FOR RESCUE AND SALVAGE". TEAM MEMBERS: The team started with thirty (30) qualified scuba divers and marine navigators, all of which were volunteered amateurs holding international licenses in these fields, and all of them were members of Kuwait science club. EQUIPMENT AND INSTRUMENTS: The team began its work using the members personal equipment, and simple salvaging methods, until they could aquier professional salvage equipment's such as lift bags (PARACHUTES) and cranes. OBJECTIVES: -Top stop marine pollution resulting from the boats and yachts that Iraqis had sunk. -To qualify local Kuwaiti staff specialized in rescue, salvage operations and environmental projects. -To encourage voluntary work to reconstruct Kuwait. TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENT From Dec.25,1991 To Aug.4,1995 1- Salvaging 45 grapples measuring all together 400 meters, weighting 234 tons and having an area of 1049 square meters al Al-Fahaheel Sea Club. 2- Making comprehensive survey operations to all sea clubs at which the team worked, and reporting about the type of pollution and deposits at seabed. 3- Filming all salvaging operations using special under water photography and video cameras and making a documentary film about the team. OBSTACLES: 1- Lack of experience in salvaging operation, yet after a very short period of time, the team overcome this obstacle. 2- Cold water, weather instability and heat in working site. 3- Obscurity "Zero Visibility" at diving sites duw to the muddy type of seabed. 4- Risk of working under such boats & yachts as they stayed for along time under weather which make them prone to cracks and breaks. 5- Existence of ammunitions, mines, thorny wires and iron obstacles that the oppressor Iraqis had laid. 6- Working for long period under water increases the susceptibility to diving diseases. 7- Suspended fishing materials such as nets, threads, hooks and ropes which can be dangerous to divers. please see home page at http://ncc.moc.kw/Users/diver/diver.html Any comments to : diver@moc.kw ============================================================================
