Dolphin Research

Date: 16 May '96

Recently I got a request for information concerning dolphin research. I personally didn't know who to contact at the Cousteau Society to obtain such information. However, since I happened to be in Miami visiting my wife's parents, I asked around and came up with some addresses that one could write to in order to inquire about current Dolphin Research topics.

First I called the

Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science
4600 Rickenbacker Causeway
Miami, FL 33149
phone: 1-305-361-4000 (Dean's Office)
phone: 1-305-361-4020 (Library)
web: http://www.rsmas.miami.edu
which is not a place that gets into dolphin research per se.

From the Rosenstiel School Library, I got a few more addresses, first there's the

Dolphin Research Center
P.O. Box 522875
Marathon Shores, FL 33052
phone: 1-305-289-1121
which I passed on the road to Key West about 2 years ago. It's located on Grassy Key, south of Marathon Key (in the chain of islands off the southern tip of Florida).

I was told that there had been a professor at the Rosenstiel School who had "defected" to Sea World's Research Division, which can be contacted at

Hubbs Sea World Research Institute
P.O. Box 691602
Orlando, FL 32869
phone: 1-407-363-2662

And another organization that works with dolphins is

Mote Marine Lab
1600 City Island Park
Sarasota, FL 34236
phone: 1-813-388-4441
