Subject: RE: sad news
Thank you, Zhang Ju, for sharing the stories. I was not so lucky as you
to
have so much time with Tianpei after graduation in 1983. It was really
a
shock for me to hear the sad news this morning from Zejiang's email. I
could
not concentrate on work for the whole day. I also cannot resist sharing
my
story withTianpei.
In the Spring of 1987 when I was a graduate student of Peking U., one
day I
went to the Beijing Commercial College to see a lady friend who had
been my
colleague in the Financial and Economical School of Guiyang. When I had
a
happy chat with my friend, one of her roommates interrupted me "Are you
graduated from Sichuan U."I said "Yes". Then she asked again "Do you
know
Huang Tianpei". I replied "Of course I know, We were classmates". The
young
lady told me she was a teacher from NeiMeng and she had been in Sichuan
U.
for a refresh studying where she got acquainted with Tianpei's girl
friend.
She said "Oh, you don't know how happy Huang Tianpei was when he
captured
the heart of the girl. She was one of the most beautiful girl in that
University." At that time while I was glad Tianpei was in love and
happiness, I also felt the world was so small.
The last time I saw Tianpei was in 1990 at Beijing, before he headed
for
Rochester of the States. He got my office telephone number from the
Human
Resources Department of the National Bureau of Statistics and called
me. We
stayed together for only a few hours. His wife was with him and we had
lunch
together. I remember he told me a lot of stories of our buddies in
Sichuan U
and he also told me he just got a son. So on one hand he was very
excited to
go to the States, on the other he was very reluctant to leave his
family,
even for a while. He is an excellent father and husband.
I had wished that I would have a chance to see him again at last year's
reunion. Unfortunately the bad news from the reunion was that he got
cancer.
I had wished all will be fine with him, but now he left his loved ones
and
reside with the God.
I will miss him!
