From: pollitt@isni.netSubject: Pollitt emigration Legend I heard the Family Legend from J.J. Pollitte of Maysburg, KY, now deceased. He was born about 1913, and died a few years back. He got the legend from his dad --- I have heard the same legend, virtually, data for data intact, from the Maryland POLLITTS, too. The two brothers were JOHN POLLITT and THOMAS POLLITT. John was the older brother, a merchant marine. He came to America several times and liked what he saw. On one voyage (1660s, perhaps in the 1670's) he brought his younger brother, Thomas, along. This is the Thomas (c.1640-1708). They opened a trading goods store near what is today's Princess Anne MD. John sailed back and forth to England buying the goods for Thomas and Thomas stayed in Maryland and ran the store. On one such voyage John, sailing on the ship THE PROMISE, was lost at sea. The first meniton of Thomas in the records of Somerset County MD is 1687 .. when he gets married. IF you believe the circa 1640 for his birth he was 47 when he got married ... perhaps not too unbelieveable when you take into consideration that women were very scarce in Somerset Co until about 1700.
