Welcome to the deal.II virtual box image!

NOTE: Before you get started, make sure you set up your virtual machine settings to the appropriate number of cores (<= the number of cores in your system) and amount of RAM (at most your total RAM minus 1GB). Be aware that a powerful machine is recommended for this virtual image to work. For serious computations we recommend running deal.II natively on a linux machine.

This image contains the following software you might find useful:

• deal.II (release 9.4.0) configured with MPI, Trilinos, PETSc, p4est
• ASPECT (software library for Mantle Convection based on deal.II, development version)
• for code editing: qtcreator, vscode, mousepad, and emacs
• for visualization: gnuplot, paraview, and visit
• for debugging: gdb and valgrind

If you need to install additional software you might need the information of the local user account:
