DISCLAIMER

This course is simply an introduction to some of the commands of ARC-INFO, it is in no way a course in spatial analysis. Some of the methods used here are definitely inefficient and in some cases probably inaccurate. However it will teach you how to get about in ARC, ARCPLOT and INFO.

This course was developed on a SUN sparcstation IPX. I haven't used PC ARC-INFO so I don't know if all the commands work the same way (sorry guys). The colors may not appear the same on your display as they appear here, but you should be able to get the general drift. There are two parts to this course

How I got the data into ARC-INFO

and

How I analyzed the data in ARC-INFO

To use the course as an on-line tutorial, download the files I used and follow the instructions for setting them up, both are available here. Then open up two arc sessions, i.e. in one command window type

$arc

and in another window

$arc

followed by :

Arc: arcplot

So you have an arc session and an arcplot session running simultaneously as you will need to switch between the two quite a lot. In the arcplot session invoke your station file or display file, to get the display started - it should be something like

> &stat 9999

or

> display 9999

You are then ready to go .

On with the course .
